3 Necessary Responses to a Decline in Public Confidence

This week, Senior Consultant Richard Freeland is featured again in Inside Higher Ed and his piece, "Recovering Our Lost Public Esteem," mentions three current stumbling blocks for colleges and universities. They are:
  1. Many believe that the value of a college degree is in decline.
  2. Some Americans perceive higher education as being politically biased and negatively impacting the direction of the country.
  3. Concern is high that since schools are businesses, many are being run with more concern about the institution than the outcomes of its students.

Richard proposes three ways academic leaders can replace these negative perceptions with positive appreciation of higher education. After reading the article, what do you think of his suggestions?
